Our services - Impact studies

Impact studies and environmental assessment… thinking of future generations

  • Computed simulation of visual impact of forest harvesting;
  • Assessing ecological value of specific  habitat and identification of species at risk;
  • Assessing tree health condition, e.g., mechanical breaks and mortality risks.

Reducing the impact of human activities on ecosystems requires particular understanding of the different forest values such as aquatic environment, wildlife habitat, cultural values or protection of soils.

Our multi-disciplinary team offers services to evaluate the habitat quality of many wildlife species such as white-tailed deer and moose. We also have the expertise to evaluate the ecological value of a specific environment through the consideration of biodiversity values and species at risk. In addition, we assess tree health and the risks of damage from surrounding buildings and infrastructure.

Nova Sylva has the expertise and the modelling tools required to evaluate the impact of various silviculture strategies on indicators of sustainability values at the landscape scale for long-term planning. These tools and their resulting projections can be used to establish management targets including ecosystem-based management indicators. We also offer a service of forest landscape visualization - making it possible to simulate the visual impact of planned forest harvesting areas on a given territory.
